Assessment

 assessment1

“The staff are great for letting the parents know what the child’s on target with and what needs a bit of work."

Parent Feedback

During the home visit parents/ carers are given a booklet called 'All About Me' to be completed before their child starts Cleator Moor Nursery School.

This helps the keyworker have a rounded understanding of each family and the child's needs and interests.

After a couple of weeks settling in, keyworkers will complete an entry profile (this is called a baseline assessment), which helps us monitor the progress and attainment of each child. Children are then assessed each term they are in school, to ensure good progress is being made.

“They (Learning Journals) are a lovely book to look through B’s nursery journey.”

Parent Feedback

assessment2

“The (Busy) books are very information. They show a range of activities A has been involved in. they were quite surprising to be honest. Staff really developed A in a lot of areas.”

Parent Feedback

At Cleator Moor Nursery School, each child has a Learning Journal and Busy Book. The Learning Journal captures and records work the children have been doing. The children’s Busy Books monitor progress and attainment in all areas of learning and development. Keyworkers add photos, written observations, pieces of work, comments and news from home.

Learning Journals and Busy Books are shared regularly with children, parents and carers; this provides an opportunity for children to self-reflect and for parents to tell us about their child’s development at home, enabling us to create a whole picture of the child. Children enjoy looking at their special books and benefit greatly from sharing them with their family, talking about all the new things they have learned or experienced, both at home and in school.

When children leave Cleator Moor Nursery School, parents receive a written report on their child’s progress and attainment. This report will focus on how they learn (Characteristics of Effective Learning) and their main interests. Parents/ carers are encouraged to comment on the report. These reports are also shared with the Primary School children are moving on to.

These unique Learning Journals, Busy Books and reports are presented to children at a special event when they leave us, to be treasured for the future.
