We offer 15 hour government funded places for children the term after their 3rd birthday. We also offer the 30 hour government funded sessions for children who meet the criteria. Please visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk for more information and to apply. As a Local Authority Maintained Nursery School, our sessions run Monday to Friday, term time only.

Times

The session times run 8:45am to 11:45am and 12:30pm to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only. Children, who access the 30 hours entitlement, will attend the morning session and access their additional hours in the afternoon. There are combinations of options available, which will be discussed with parents individually. For further information, please contact the nursery office.

A typical session consists of:

- arrival, settling in and self-registration (daily contact with keyworker)

- play opportunities and activities, catering to children’s interests. These include small world play, role play, outdoor play, indoor gym, baking, play-dough, creative activities, messy play, construction, sand and water play, reading, writing and mathematical activities

- daily circle time with planned teaching focus

- keyworker led phonic activities/ mathematical activities

- key groups sit down together to share snack and story time

Groups and staff ratios

The children are organised into smaller, family groups: Penguin, Panda, Dolphin and Zebra. Each group has a named keyworker who works with the child and their family closely. The adult to child ratio is 1:13.

Curriculum

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. Weekly planning informed by children's interests ensures all areas of learning and development are included in activities and play opportunities (please see Our Curriculum – Learning Through Play page for further details). Our aim is to give children the best start to their school life and prepare them for the next step in their educational journey to Primary school.

“…the teaching of phonics is a real strength of the school. Learning is highly active and fun.”

“After attending a phonics workshop parents commented, ‘The workshop has really helped me understand how I can make learning sounds fun at home’.”

Phonics

We introduce the children to phonics using Phase 1 and Phase 2 phonic activities. We run information sessions for parents, so they can support their child at home.

Snack

Snack is served every day in the nursery classroom. As a healthy school there is variety and a choice of foods, which caters for all children’s tastes, needs and dietary requirements. Parents are asked for £1 per week towards the cost of snack.

“Standards of behaviour around the nursery are impeccable. Staff are excellent role models for children to observe.”
