Settling In

As you and your child take the first step into education, we know how important it is that your child is happy and settled in nursery.

The first few weeks are of crucial importance to ensure your child’s future happiness in school. Our settling induction process caters for all children's needs and helps to ease your child into the beginning of their school journey.

Home Visits

Your child’s keyworker will come to visit your child at home. This is an opportunity to get to know each other as well as discussing and sharing information about your child in the privacy of your own home. Children like these visits and often remember them, commenting “Do you remember when you came to my house?”

First Visit

On the first day at school, you will be invited to stay with your child, join in their play and see for yourself how our nursery sessions run. This can often allay any of the worries or concerns you may have as a parent, but it also helps your child get used to their new environment with the love and support of their parents.

Following Sessions

Over the first couple of weeks in school, your keyworker will work with you to make sure the settling in period is as comfortable and happy as possible.

If your child is upset, stay positive about nursery. A quick goodbye is best and always let your child know that you will be back soon to collect them.

All children are unique. Some will settle very quickly, some may take a little longer. They all get there in the end.

Keyworker Groups

Your child will be placed in one of our key groups. Each group has a keyworker. In the Rainbow Room the groups are Red, Green, Blue and Yellow. In the Nursery Classroom the groups are Penguins, Pandas, Dolphins and Zebras.

During your child’s time at Cleator Moor Nursery School they will spend time in their group each day for story time, snack time and group time. Your keyworker will get to know your child very well and be the person you see at the beginning of every nursery session. They will share daily news with you and will keep you informed of all your child’s needs and developments.

"I feel like they (staff) are always there for L, because she doesn't like it when I leave in the mornings; there is always someone there for her."
