Safety & Welfare

The safety and welfare of all in school is a priority. We are proud to be a happy, fun place where all feel safe and cared for.

safety welfare2   Mobile Phones and Photographs

We do not permit anyone to use their mobile phone in school. We request that whenever anyone comes into school, they ensure their mobile phones are safely stored away and are not used.

During special events, such as the Christmas Concert, photographs will be taken by the staff and will be sent home as mementos of the event.

Parent Feedback

If children are not well, they need to be at home until they feel well enough to return to school.

If your child becomes unwell whilst in nursery, we will contact you by telephone. We ask all parents to ensure their contact numbers are always up to date.

We ask parents to notify us on the first day of a child’s absence, letting us know the cause of the illness. If a child   has been sick or had diarrhoea, we operate a 48 hour isolation rule to ensure the illness does not spread around   the school community.

Medical Conditions

Children with medical conditions, such as Asthma, which need medication (e.g. inhalers), have their own   individual prescribed inhaler in school. Parents must complete medical consent forms before medication can be administered by staff.

As a general rule, we do not administer antibiotics in school; the timings of these medicines often allow it to be administered before and after the nursery sessions.

If a child has any medical needs and parents wish to discuss these, they need to contact the school office on 01946 811189.

All keyworker staff are Paediatric First Aid trained.

Young children often have little bumps, which result in minor cuts and bruises. These are dealt with by qualified staff; parents are informed of these when the child is collected.

Anything more serious will be dealt with any qualified staff and then recorded on our individual accident form which parents are asked to read and sign.

Should a child require a doctor or emergency medical treatment, we will contact parents via the emergency contact details provided by parents. It is vital that these numbers are always up to date.

safety welfare3   Dropping Off/ Collecting

When a child is dropped off at school, parents must please ensure they take them into the classrooms and hand over to their keyworker. Children must never be left in the cloakroom areas.

Children must be collected by people who are familiar to them and who are listed on their emergency contacts list. We will never allow a child to be collected by anyone not on this list, even if they are known to us or the child.

As you can appreciate, our school site is very busy. The school site begins at the junction of the slip road with Ennerdale Road. To make the site as safe as possible, parking and/ or driving onto the school site is NOT allowed at any time of the day (Blue Badge holders exempt).

We ask parents to please park along Ennerdale Road or adjoining roads and walk into the school site.

We monitor parking and have support from the Police and Local Community Support Officers.

Security Fencing – Intercom Access

Our nursery school site is secured with a perimeter fence and an intercom system to enter the school grounds. This ensures we have full knowledge of who is on site at any time and that the children are safe and secure when playing in the garden area of the school.

“Security is paramount at Cleator Moor Nursery and that is apparent from day 1.”
